Dr. Matthew Dillon was born in Ithaca. He attended both the Alternative Community School and Ithaca High School. Dr. Dillon earned his chiropractic
pre-requisite education and an associate’s degree at Tompkins Cortland Community College. He attended Sherman Chiropractic College in Spartanburg, SC, where he completed his Doctor of Chiropractic degree. The philosophy of Sherman states that chiropractic is based on a vitalist perspective that recognizes an innate intelligence in which the brain and nervous system controls and maintains optimal health. Interference with the nervous system can lead to a change in health most obviously manifested as disease or loss of function. Beyond this, said interference can affect performance on many levels, some easily observed and others more subtle.
As a student, Matthew presented lectures to fellow students on the art and philosophy of Chiropractic. As a senior student he mentored students in spinal adjustments. Dr. Dillon has been licensed to practice in New York since 2003. He brings a together both unique lifelong experiences in massage and conservative, specific chiropractic methods and techniques. Matthew’s life and work are grounded in the philosophies of vitalism and yoga. He firmly believes these principles are integral to other forms of healing and that all these modalities are essential to the recovery of natural health.
Some feel that modern-day chiropractors have assumed that liberal spinal manipulation has a positive effect on the human frame. A small percentage of traditional chiropractors still believe that only precise and specific adjustments of the spine should be performed. They also believe that liberal or frequent manipulation can, in some cases, exacerbate an existing or create a new misalignment. Dr. Matthew Dillon regards himself as a proud member of the ‘old school’ of precise and specific chiropractic treatment.
Pat Dolson, Office Manager, has had several careers. Trained in Theater Lighting and Design at Ithaca College and Carnegie-Mellon University, she worked in regional theatre in New York, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Massachusetts. Changing direction, Pat returned to Ithaca to work at a vice president’s office in Cornell University. She used early first word processors and became interested in computing and database design. Wanting to live and work in New York City, she relocated to NYC in 1981 to begin an 18-year career with AT&T. While working at AT&T headquarters in NJ, she met Anthony at an introductory Aikido class. Years later, they married. Pat retired from AT&T in 1998, the better to assist Anthony with his work, and to help create Peaceful Spirit Acupuncture.
